Judith Abernathy-Baldwin had always aspired to be an artist, yet only studied and painted part-time until she turned 40. That’s when she sold her business, quit her job and devoted herself to art on a full-time basis. Since 1982, Abernathy-Baldwin has enjoyed much success and endured the hardships only an artist can know. Art is at once a sublime inspiration and a long, trying discipline. “It is more than just creating or expressing, but a spiritual experience,” she explained. “It is limiting to describe, but I would have to say that without art, life becomes simply existence.”
“My love for DeLand inspired Vantage Point Main Street, which I created in 1985. I consider the aerial view of the town particularly interesting, with the perspective offering a variety of design and shape. The geometrical X created by the intersection of Woodland Boulevard and Indiana Avenue was captivating. The composition proved challenging and the image intriguing. It is a view from the past, but is alive and vigorous today.” - Judith Abernathy-Baldwin
