As head of the art program at the Kent campus of Florida State College at Jacksonville, Anne Banas' true passion is found in helping her students find their artistic heart and learn to express it. For this reason, she continues to teach Drawing 1 classes, as well as more advanced painting and mural design.
Her artwork has been displayed in galleries and corporate and government offices from California to New York, but her most publicly recognizable pieces are her murals. She has completed several since moving to Jacksonville in 1989, including “Cat House Jacksonville.”
In 1998, Banas completed America’s largest hand-painted mural, “First Team.” This mural rose more than 150 feet over downtown Jacksonville, depicting five members of the original Jacksonville Jaguars team and their coach. The mural was nationally televised during every home game from its completion in summer 1998 until it was painted over in September 2006.
Banas continues to paint (on a smaller scale) for private collections, using the inspiration of the constantly changing sky and sea around her in Florida. Before arriving in Jacksonville, Banas was head of art for the Roswell campus of Eastern New Mexico University.
