Jill Cannady is a five-time recipient of Florida's individual fellowship award and received the Southern Arts Federation/NEA award for sculpture in 1991. Her work has been shown widely and included in many major public and private collections including the Brooklyn Museum in New York and the Norton and Lowe museums in Florida.
This is her first mural, and the scene is from her imagination.
“When I stopped making non-objective paintings and began using subject matter recognizable to the viewer, the paintings immediately incorporated human beings, their condition and their immediate surroundings. Fundamentally, my subjects have not changed, but my emphasis, media and methods have evolved extensively. A keen follower of my works could, hopefully, recognize any of them as mine, although a casual observer would have more difficulty.” – Jill Cannady
