Larry Leach has been painting in oils since the mid-1960s and has taught painting and drawing for Louisiana State University and Lamar University in Texas. His favorite theme is the first strong light of dawn and the last strong rays of sunset that rake across the landscape.
Leach is a studio painter who works with oils on stretched canvas from memory of the untampered landscape. A large portion of his work draws on the sky, ocean and beach as subjects, while the rest allude to an untainted landscape. Leach’s works have been exhibited and collected in Houston, Miami, Palm Beach, Jackson, Cleveland, New York and Belgium. His works are in the private collections of former President George Bush, former Governor Edwin Edwards of Louisiana, and numerous corporate and individual collectors.
“Afternoon Light is concerned with light filtering through the trees at a raking angle in the late afternoon as the sun is setting,” Leach wrote. “It is a part of the Bullcreek Series. Bullcreek is between Melbourne and Kissimmee in Central Florida from Highway I-92 to Highway 60. The work uses color overlays with oil glazing to create a depth of color.” – Larry Leach
