Molly Mabe studied art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and received a master of fine arts degree in North Carolina. While a student in Boston, she studied ancient Chinese screens and scrolls. The extreme length and width of these paintings have influenced her work.
She dances between the realistic and abstraction – where the natural effects of light are on the main subject. Her paintings are included in museum, university, private collections, and state and federal public art projects.
“I like to reflect on what the earth must have looked and felt like before the first human. After humans arrived, these giant, ancient trees served as caretakers providing direction as sentinels, shelter and transportation. Nature communicates an absence of time, a boundlessness of spirit. This inherent spirit of the natural world draws me to landscape.” – Molly Mabe
