“The blue and gold detail of the series reflects my interest in contrast and a kind of balance, combined with improvisation and layers of related theme. Based on the square as motif, lines and shapes are combined and overlapped with quilt-like precision which dissolves as the processes of painting and mark-making begin to dictate rules of their own. I often make great plans for work I imagine I will create, then ignore them when the process starts to take over and plan itself.” – Trish Thompson
